Stop - in the name of love
June 18th, 2008 under America, Funnies. [ Comments: none ]

A town in Illinois wants to make sure that their drivers stop at stop signs. And they want to give them a few laughs at the same time. They’ve added signs below their stop signs, signs that say things like “Whoaaa…,” and “Stop and smell the roses,” and “Stop in the name of love.” But the really funny thing is this: when the mayor of the town was posing to have his picture taken next to one of the next signs, a driver ran the stop sign. Ba dum bum.

Who Are You Voting For?
April 4th, 2008 under America. [ Comments: none ]

It seems like every Presidential election gets harder.  I have no idea who I would vote for because honestly I really do not like any of the possible candidates.  I am sick of hearing about it already and it is not even close to November.  I would rather vote for a pet rock than anyone we will have as a choice, and this really bothers me.  I do not believe that elections should be ran on money, but instead they should be ran on merit and that just doesn’t happen anymore.

February 19th, 2008 under America, Politics, Television. [ Comments: none ]

Stephen Colbert may not be actually a viable candidate for president, but the man is definitely popular. His Facebook group, “1,000,000 Strong for Stephen T. Colbert” has passed 1,000,000 members in just five days. To put this in perspective, Barack Obama’s group has been up for nine months, and has just over 380,000 members. In. nine. months.

Zoo names baby giraffe after the Sox
February 5th, 2008 under America, Sports. [ Comments: none ]

The Boston Red Sox swept the World Series with four wins in a row over the Colorado Rockies. The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston wanted to honor the home team, and so has named a newly-born baby giraffe “Sox.” They also considered the names “Boston” and “Fenway.” Mama and baby are both doing fine.

Wanna buy a piece of American history?
January 14th, 2008 under America, Movies. [ Comments: none ]

Peter Fonda, who produced, co-wrote, and starred in the 1969 movie Freedom Rider, wants to share some of his history. He is auctioning off some of the props from the film, including the American flag that was on the back of the jacket he wore and the gold record he won for the movie soundtrack. I’m sure that some film buffs will be happy to snatch that stuff right up.

Don’t forget to return your library book - even if you’re dead
January 12th, 2008 under America, Books, That's Outrageous!. [ Comments: none ]

A woman in New York returned an overdue library book to the New York County library. It was a book her mother had checked out, and then her mom died before she returned the book. When the daughter returned the book, the librarian told her she owned a fine of fifty cents - even though she had told him that her mother was DEAD. She paid the fine, but was - understandably - pissed.

The metric system
January 7th, 2008 under America, Education. [ Comments: none ]

Did you hate learning the metric system as much as I did during school? I think I hated it because I knew that, living in the US, I would never use it. Turns out there are only three countries worldwide that don’t use the metric system. The US is one; the other two are Myanmar and Liberia. Good to know that we’re holding our own with these world powers.

January 6th, 2008 under America, Movies. [ Comments: none ]

The United States Postal Service has revealed their latest commemorative stamp - and it’s none other than Jedi master Yoda. The Yoda stamp was a part of a stamp set of Star Wars characters, and when the public was asked to vote on their favorite pick for an individual stamp, Yoda won. Get your Yoda stamps before they’re gone.

Girl given new horse after her pony is killed
December 27th, 2007 under America. [ Comments: none ]

Eleven-year-old Katie Symalla was devastated to find her pony, Savannah, dead in her pen. Someone had gotten into the pen and killed the pony, also cutting off part of its face. Katie is still grieving, but she has a reason to smile, too. An 8-month-old quarter-horse has been given to Katie by Sue Wenzel, a woman from the same area of Minnesota as Katie. Eleven people called to offer Katie a new horse. It’s nice to know there are some really good people out there.
